At Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy, Sport Studies is important because:
- The leadership aspect pushes students outside of their comfort zone but at the same time accelerates their self-confidence, independence and communication skills.
- It provides an extra opportunity to increase physical activity levels and develop the skills required to provide opportunities for others take part in sport.
- As everything we learn is contemporary and reflects the world around us right now, studying Sport Studies will help you to understand the world that you live in.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to:
- Allow you to bank marks that will count towards your final grade as we progress through Year 10 and 11.
- Build your knowledge sequentially so that you can confidentially tackle the exam in Year 11.
- Provide opportunities to review the quality of your coursework and improve it.
In Sport Studies, we deliver the curriculum through:
- Computer based research and coursework lessons.
- Classroom lessons with lots of discussion and active student engagement.
- Practical teaching of sports and sports leadership.
Assessment
- Summative coursework marks.
- Practical performance in two sports and ability to lead a sports session.
- Regular end of topic tests and mock exams.
GCSE Assessment
Combines an externally assessed written examination with internally assessed coursework units.
Written Examination
R184: Contemporary Issues in Sport – 40% of the qualification.
Coursework
R185: Performance and Leadership in Sports Activities – 40%
R186: Sport and the Media – 20%
We know our curriculum is successful when:
- Students demonstrate secure knowledge of contemporary sporting issues and can apply this understanding to exam and coursework tasks.
- Students develop confidence, leadership, communication and analytical skills that support success across the curriculum and beyond school.
- Students achieve positive outcomes and progress to further study, training or careers within sport, health, fitness and related industries.
