KS4 Exam Board: AQA Religious Studies Full Course Excluding Textual Studies

At Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy, Religion, Philosophy and Ethics is important because:

• Every student should understand the faiths and cultures around them.
• Every student should be given the opportunity to ask and study big questions that concerns religion, themselves and others.
• Nothing else matters if you do not ask the why. Religion, Philosophy and Ethics gives students an opportunity to do that.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to:

• Teach students about world faiths.
• Apply both religious and non-religious views to a number of contemporary issues.
• Get students to think so that they better understand themselves and the world around them.

In Religion, Philosophy and Ethics we deliver the curriculum through:

• Structured lessons focused around different faiths, philosophical ideas and ethical studies.
• Classroom discussion and proposition and exploration of big questions for students to explore.
• A combination of world religions and ‘themes’ that apply those religions to a specific theme. For example ‘ethics.’ 

Assessment

• Structured exams that combine assessment of knowledge and skill.
• Peer Marking so that students (especially at KS4) can understand what examiners are looking for.
• Spaced retrieval lessons that allow students to both reflect on how they have done in an assessment but also address gaps in knowledge that may have arisen over the course of the topic.

GCSE Assessment

Written exams; 2 papers - both 50% of the mark.

We know our curriculum is successful when:

• Students understand the faiths that others have both in the classroom and in the wider world.
• Students are capable of taking a ‘deep look’ into the many questions that surround religion, philosophy and ethics.
• Students are confident in their views of right and wrong and are capable to share those views in a structured and well thought-out way.
